What it’s all about…

Someone told me along time ago to not get too bent out of shape over messes because you can always clean them up.  Since then I’ve always reminded myself of that.  Because of that advice…we have ALOT more fun!

While we were busy making mud…Pop Pop showed up with a surprise for Jack!   It was so cute, and they had so much fun playing together! I can say now that I’m positive Jack is left handed.  We set him up to hit like a right handed player, and he turned and hit the ball behind him :)

Jack attack.

Spring2011 029

Jack is busy my friends. His new interests include the weather, bugs & singing songs by himself.

The other day I mentioned something about how the weather was nice…it was sunny outside…and Jack went on to tell me about all the different kinds of weather.  He especially liked to talk about thunder, lightning, & rain, so that’s what prompted this activity, which went from learning about clouds, etc. to a cutting activity, so we cut :)

I encouraged him to finish gluing his rain drops and clouds, but what he really wanted to do is cut them, so I let him.  Most activities with 2 yr. olds aren’t about the finished product.

Its very hard to go a day without dirt…

Miss Madeline is my eater.  She eats ANYTHING I feed her(so opposite of Jack when he was her age!)  It makes me sad that she can’t have milk because she LOVED yogurt and pastas with cream sauces.

It was another rainy day, so I asked Jack what he wanted to learn about.  He thought for a minute…and said CRICKETS! So, we looked up crickets on the IPAD and created one(notice the puff balls…my focus was fine motor skills…his was crickets Smile) He loved the activity…which quickly led to LADY BUGS.

So, we looked up lady bugs…and then he wanted to paint some, so there you have it…I quickly whipped up some “lady bugs” and he painted them…and only them!  He did add a sun to the picture though…

By the way…I enrolled Jack in a preschool program for next year…TUES./Thurs. 9-2 pm.  Ya’ll…I gave myself three fever blisters over this process. I had SUCH high standards…it was like I was trying to get him into the BEST of the BEST college…and in reality it was preschool for two days a week…

I’m really happy with the school I found.  It’s a Christian preschool…hands on, discovery based learning, and some JESUS which was really important to me.  I’m looking forward to class parties, field trips & giving Jack some time to be with other kids & learn!

It’s my PARTY and I’ll cry if I want to!

Sunday was my birthday…making me 27***gasp***sigh***where did year 24,25, & 26 go?***sigh again***I guess I’m okay with it :)  Brad says those years went to being pregnant & having babies, and that makes me smile.  Those years didn’t go to just that though.  They went to Residency(which next year is our LAST year), learning to be a better person…a much better person, experiencing life with children(the most amazing gift of all time), and falling deeper in LOVE with Brad…you would think love is so deep at marriage right?

Can I tell you…there is more to a love between two people over time…

between two people who have children together…

between two people who go through residency together…

**between two people who learn to make sacrifices together…

The past few years have been…renewing.

I was caught off guard on Saturday. I was sad. The pain I was already enduring after losing my Dad was cutting deeper.  My Dad doesn’t “talk” on the phone, but he always called me on my birthday. ALWAYS. I knew he wouldn’t be calling…I wouldn’t hear “Heeeyyyy Rebecca…just wanted to call and wish you a happy birthday…”  It hurt…and it made me feel lost...it forced me to be honest with myself…He was gone. Wait, say it again.  He is gone….he is gone…he is gone…he is gone…It never feels real. I asked Brad about that feeling once, and he said, “I think you are searching for a certain feeling, but I don’t think it will ever feel “certain.” I guess something so unnatural will never feel certain…

I was also sad because Brad is on night float (he’s been working all night, sleeping all day, and then heading back to work at 5:30 pm.) I’d be spending my birthday alone I thought, but just when I felt like I couldn’t be strong any longer…GOD SHOWED UP like he always does.  Brad got sleep on a Saturday night(which is RARE) and was able to spend my birthday with me.  That’s how I know…I’m not alone.

Cajun Snow Day…

I say “Cajun” because we weren’t at all prepared for cold weather…BUT like a good ole Cajun does…you make do with what you have & “rig” it.

Last night we got a little snow…and this morning it was still covering our driveway and the front porch/Jack’s construction zone.  I showed Jack the snow, and the first thing he said was, “Can I lick it Momma?”

I dressed him up as warm as I could…He’s got quite a few layers on since we didn’t have normal “snow” attire.  I felt bad because he didn’t even have gloves…but as you can see in the pictures he is wearing an old pair of mine…and he wore them like a champ!

He had so much fun playing in the snow…filling his dump truck….digging with his backhoe…and after about 30 minutes he didn’t fight me to come inside!

Trucks, Dirt & Potty Training

Jack is ALL boy.

I swear he was born already knowing how to make truck, boat, airplane & anything “with an engine” sounds.  He loves dirt…and he LOVES rocks.  We have a collection of rocks in my car in front of his car seat that he has collected along the way.

He’s rough.  He’s tough.  He’s 100% boy.

His favorite place to be is outside playing in the dirt with all his trucks.  He is on his best behavior when he’s out there because he is in his element.  He’s interested, engaged & happy.  He has started role playing with his toys lately, and it’s so fun to listen in on his make believe work sites!

Yesterday afternoon he was playing, so I pulled Madeline’s highchair to the front door so his imaginary world could continue.  She loved eating in a new place while watching Jack play!

Potty Training—Oh Dear---I don’t like potty training.

I started awhile back with a really strong approach(straight to underwear and asking every ten minutes with positive rewards) and it had the reverse effect and Jack started crying and refusing to sit on the potty, so I took a step back and figured when he was ready things would go better.  We started just asking him casually every once in awhile…giving treats and celebrating, but never pushing him to go.  He’s been doing better, and today we are trying underwear.  This was a potty set up this morning…he’s such a character!
